How Tiger Woods Paved the Way for Kids Golf
NO ADSENSE ACCOUNT SELECTED FOR GOOGLE ADSENSE Not that long ago, Golf was considered an adult sport, and was
considered too long and hard for most children to play. Today, more children than ever are interested in
playing golf, and that has a lot to do with Tiger Woods. Tiger Woods has pretty well single-handedly taken the
sport and made it popular for children of all ages, and they are now discovering what you already know...Golf is a
the best sport, a mental challange and exercised, combined.
If your child seems to take an interest in golf, a good idea is to enrol them in lessons. Professional golf
classes will help them develop immensely. Also, physiologically, having a professional show them the fundamentals
in a non-judgmental way will help them and you can build on what was learned at the lessons when you play together.
Most golf courses have classes just for children, and usually the class will include the equipment needed, or at
least will have some clubs for rent. Not only will this save you money, but also you both can see how interested
they are in playing. You don't want to go out and spend money on clubs that are going to gather dust in the corner
because your kid just didn't take to the sport.
The most important thing to remember when you are just starting to teach your child the ins and outs of golf
is Remember that you have many years experience over them, and they are not going to be hitting balls
straight or sinking 20 foot putts for a long time. At this point, it really doesn't matter, and you shouldn't
care. With practice comes skill, but if it is an unpleasant experience for them, they won't come back for
practice to get the skill. Just like you, they need a bit of time to get the skill, and etiquette of golf. Let your
child progress at their rate. When you are on the practice range with them be sure you encourage them, even when
they are spraying the balls all over the range. They will pick up the finer points of the game later as they grow
older and more experienced.
When they have had some lessons, and only when you know they are genuinely interested in playing, should you
invest in golf clubs. Make sure their clubs are correctly fitted, as clubs that are too big will be unruly and
cumbersome in their hands, and will lessen the joy of the game. Of course, since they will be growing in height and
weight, understand that the clubs you buy today will last two year maximum before new ones are needed
My favourite part of golfing with my daughter is the quality time that we spend together. We discuss things that
might never have come up in day-to-day life, and it has brought us closer together. We both enjoy going out for a
day of golf. I'm no Tiger woods, and she isn't Lorena Ochoa, but we both love the game just as much as they do.
